Govt ready to waive Nadra rules for Altaf By Iftikhar A. Khan ISLAMABAD: Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan announced on Friday that the interior ministry was prepared to waive normal procedural requirements in order to facilitate Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain in obtaining a National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). Addressing a press conference at his office, the interior minister said the government had no objections if Mr Hussain wanted to obtain a NICOP or a Pakistani passport after nearly two decades of living abroad.
Sharif invites Modi By Baqir Sajjad Syed ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday phoned Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to congratulate him on his party’s win in Indian elections and invited him to visit Pakistan. Mr Sharif was among the first world leaders to have called Mr Modi for greeting him on the electoral victory, which he described as “impressive”.
Tax-to-GDP ratio down By Khaleeq Kiani ISLAMABAD: The budget strategy paper for 2014-17 presented to the federal cabinet by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar sets ambitious targets for reduction of debt build-up and fiscal deficit, but concedes that the tax-to-GDP ratio has declined during the current year despite an increase in tax rates. According to sources, the minister informed the cabinet on Thursday that even though tax collection had improved by more than 15 per cent during this year, the tax-to-GDP ratio had dropped significantly.
Latest round of Iran’s nuclear talks ends without progress AFP VIENNA: A fourth round of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers ended on Friday with both sides complaining that major gaps remained ahead of a July 20 deadline for a vaunted accord. Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi quoted on state television, reported “no tangible progress” at the talks in Vienna as he described the gaps as “too huge”.
