SC asks Punjab to end ‘unlawful’ wheat curbs Nasir Iqbal ISLAMABAD: Admitting a complaint against the blockade of wheat transport into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa filed by the PTI government, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the PML-N government in Punjab to refrain from taking unlawful measures. Additional Advocate General Mustafa Ramday, who was representing the Punjab government, was also ordered by a three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja to tell the court on May 28 why the wheat procured in Punjab by the KP government was not being allowed to be transported out of the province.
LHC puts leading politicians on notice The Newspaper's Staff Reporter LAHORE: The Lahore High Court directed its registrar on Tuesday to serve notices on over two dozen politicians, including present and former rulers, their family members, a property tycoon and a rights activist through proclamation in newspaper for submitting replies to a petition seeking a court order for them to bring their foreign assets back to Pakistan. The respondents include Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his wife Kulsoom Nawaz and son Hussain Nawaz, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his ex-wife Jemima, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and his wife, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, property tycoon Malik Riaz Husain of Bahria Town, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ijazul Haq, Humayun Akhtar Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Faisal Saleh Hayat, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Pervaiz Elahi, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Ghulam Mustafa Khar, Rehman Malik, Fazlur Rehman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf, PPP Senator Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and his wife Bushra Aitzaz and rights activist Asma Jehangir.
Media crisis turns into Pemra chaos Dawn Report ISLAMABAD: The media crisis that has been gripping the nation for a month took a turn for the worse on Tuesday evening when a meeting held by a few members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) announced the suspension of three licences — Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Tez — of Geo network. However, after an hour of statements and counter-statements and utter confusion, the management of the authority said that the meeting itself was illegal, adding that any decisions taken by it were null and void.
Modi fights back tears during BJP meeting Jawed Naqvi NEW DELHI: India’s Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi choked, paused and fought back tears at his acceptance speech on Tuesday after deputies of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Democratic Alliance unanimously named him their leader in parliament. Mr Modi later met President Pranab Mukherjee at the British-built Presidential Palace who nominated him as the next prime minister and set May 26 for the swearing-in.
TTP faction claims kidnapping Chinese tourist Dawn Report LADHA/DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A faction of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for kidnapping a Chinese tourist from Darban area in D.I. Khan, on Monday evening. The Chinese national Hong xu Dong was on a cycling tour of the country and going from Lahore to Balochistan via D.I. Khan when he was kidnapped. Sources said that from Balochistan, he planned to go to Iran.
