Three troops killed in suicide attack on post

MIRAMSHAH: Three soldiers were killed and 10 others injured when a suicide attacker rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into a checkpost near Miramshah in North Waziristan Agency on Monday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations, the military’s media wing, said the attacker smashed his vehicle into the Boya checkpost on Miramshah-Datakhel road, killing three soldiers and injuring 10 others, including two women.

Bodies of Taftan victims handed over to families

QUETTA: The bodies of 24 pilgrims killed in suicide attacks and firing at two hotels in the border town of Taftan were brought to Quetta by helicopters on Monday.

The dead included 13 men, 10 women and a child. Eighteen people were injured in the Sunday night attack.

TTP owns up to airport attack

MIRAMSHAH: The outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Monday claimed responsibility for the attack on Karachi airport in revenge for the killing of their leader. Hakeemullah Mehsud died in a US drone strike in November.

“We carried out the attack on Karachi airport to avenge the death of Hakeemullah Mehsud,” TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid told AFP.

• Shortly after 11.15pm on Sunday, two groups of militants about five each in number carrying backpacks and armed with assault AK-47 and 222 rifles stormed the old terminal of the airport through its Fokker gate and customs clearance gate.

• Around midnight, the first casualty of the gory episode was reported when five ASF personnel were killed one after the other by one of the attackers’ groups in a facility close to the Fokker gate.

Heavy exchange of fire on border with Iran

QUETTA: A heavy exchange of fire took place between Pakistani and Iranian border forces along Mashkel area of Washuk district on Monday, sources said.

The Iranian forces started firing rockets at around 9.30am, they said.
