Military operation in Bajaur put on hold Anwarullah Khan KHAR: Security forces and the Bajaur political administration agreed on Wednesday to postpone a planned military operation in border areas of Mamond tehsil in Bajaur tribal agency after tribal elders from Mamond announced formation of a grand quami lashkar (militia) to combat militants and prevent cross-border attacks. The accord was reached at a meeting between a delegation of tribal elders from Mamond led by National Assembly member Haji Bismillah Khan and Fata chapter�s chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed and senior security officials, including northern sector commander Brigadier Ghulam Haider, and members of the local administration, including Bajaur Agency�s Political Agent Syed Abdul Jabar Shah.
Rains bring down loadshedding by 2-3 hours Ahmad Fraz Khan | Intikhab Hanif LAHORE: The much-awaited rains brought temperatures down by five to seven degrees Celsius in some parts of the country on Wednesday and electricity demand by almost 2,500MW, reducing nationwide loadshedding by two to three hours. The planners at the National Power Control Centre said the demand had come down to 20,500MW by the evening from 24,000MW a day before at the same time. Although the situation was still not fully under control, it improved a bit.
Air strikes in Shawal kill 35 suspects Bureau Report PESHAWAR: War planes bombed suspected militant hideouts in Shawal mountains and eliminated 35 terrorists early on Wednesday morning, hours after local people said a US drone strike killed 20, mostly foreigners, in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan. A senior security official said the jets targeted militants in the forested Shawal Valley.
Israeli naval shelling kills four boys on Gaza beach Reuters GAZA: Israeli shelling killed four boys on a Gaza beach on Wednesday, a local health official said, and Palestinian militants fired a further 70 rockets into Israel after a failed Egyptian attempt to halt more than a week of warfare. Israel urged the evacuation of several districts in the Gaza Strip where more than 100,000 people live, threatening ground operations to try to stem the rocket attacks.
2 Pakistanis injured in Indian firing The Newspaper's Staff Reporter ISLAMABAD: Indian Border Security Forces resorted to unprovoked firing on Pakistan Rangers� posts in Charwah sector near Sialkot on Wednesday, Pakistan�s military sources said. The Pakistani forces responded to Indian firing and intermittent exchange of fire along the Working Boundary continued till late evening.
