Rapid assessment of IDPs’ needs to be completed today APP ISLAMABAD: The government will formally launch a relief initiative for people displaced from North Waziristan after a rapid assessment of their needs, which will be completed on Saturday (today). This was stated by the additional secretary of the Ministry of State and Frontier Regions (Safron) and focal person for the internally displaced persons, Mr Tariq Hayat, at a press conference here on Friday. The assessment would enable the government to establish exact requirements of the IDPs, he added.
Gadani infrastructure, Karachi water projects approved Khaleeq Kiani ISLAMABAD: The Executive Commit­tee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) formally approved on Friday two major projects — the Gadani Power Park infrastructure development project and Rs25.5 billion for the first phase of the Greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme. The two projects were cleared by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Thursday and recommended for approval.
Seven die in coach-truck collision The Newspaper's Correspondent DERA MURAD JAMALI: At least seven people, among them two women and an army man, were killed and eight others injured when a truck and a coach collided near a village in Bolan district on Friday night. According to Levies officials, the Quetta-bound wagon coming from Jacobabad collided with the truck coming from the opposite side near Limji village in tehsil Balanari.

China appoints special envoy for Afghanistan Reuters BEIJING: China’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday that it had appointed a special envoy for Afghanistan, underscoring Beijing’s concerns that the withdrawal of Nato troops would leave a hotbed of militancy on its doorstep. Sun Yuxi, a former ambassador to both Afghanistan and India, has been named to the new position and will have “close communication” with Afghanistan and other relevant parties, the ministry said in a statement.
