Opposition leader asks PM to focus on security for IDPs By Amir Wasim ISLAMABAD: A day after visiting the camps of North Waziristan’s internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bannu, the leader of opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, talked to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on telephone on Saturday, asking him to improve facilities at the camps and suggesting an upgrade in security measures for the area. Drone kills 15 Punjabi Taliban, Uzbeks Bureau Report PESHAWAR: The army said on Saturday that it had begun consolidating its control of Boya and Degan after clearing the two villages in North Waziristan of local and foreign militants. The Inter Services Public Relations said in a statement that “consolidation of Boya and Degan is in progress”. Boya and Degan, once militant redoubts, lie 30km to the west of Miramshah, North Waziristan’s headquarters.
FC man among three killed in Khuzdar blast By Abdul Wahid Shahwani KHUZDAR: Three people, among them a soldier of the Frontier Corps, were killed and at least 25 others injured in a bomb attack on an FC vehicle in Khuzdar Town on Saturday. Sources said that unidentified people placed an explosive device at the Chandi Chowk in Khuzdar town and detonated it by remote control when the FC vehicle was passing through the area.
Power ministry hopes new strategy to cut losses will pay off By Amin Ahmed ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Water and Power has developed a ‘Band it & Move it’ strategy to curtail line losses and improve the recovery of dues. In her briefing to the committee on Energy Resource Rationalisation for the power sector on Saturday, Water and Power Secretary Nargis Sethi presented the overall status of receivable bills, electricity theft and revenue collection. This committee was formed by the prime minister and is headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Israelis kill 46 Palestinians on operation’s bloodiest day GAZA CITY: Israel’s operation against Hamas saw one of its bloodiest days on Saturday, with 46 Palestinians killed in Gaza and two Israeli soldiers dying in a clash with militants who infiltrated the Jewish state. As Israeli warplanes bombarded Gaza from the air, and tanks and bulldozers dug in across a mile-wide strip of Gaza’s eastern frontier, the Palestinian death toll rose to 342, with rights groups warning that a growing number of victims are children.
Ukraine accuses rebels of destroying evidence HRABOVE: Ukraine accused Russia and pro-Moscow rebels on Saturday of destroying evidence to cover up their guilt in the shooting down of a Malaysian airliner that has accelerated a showdown between the Kremlin and Western powers. As militants kept international monitors away from wreckage and scores of bodies festered for a third day, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the rebels to cooperate and insisted that a UN-mandated investigation must not leap to conclusions. Moscow denies involvement and has pointed a finger at Kiev’s military.
