Two sisters shot dead on matrimonial dispute

Rawalpindi—Two real sisters were shot dead and the third one was injured when a person opened indiscriminate firing at them in a private girls’ hostel in Lalkurti area of the city on Monday. According to details, the three sisters, Saira, Saima and Sobia, were running a girls’ hostel to earn their livelihood. A man, identified as Asad, sought to marry one of the sisters Saira which she refused. The refusal annoyed Asad and on Monday afternoon he entered the hostel and opened firing at the three sisters who were sitting together in the hostel. Saira and Saima died on the spot and Sobia received critical injuries. She was shifted to DHQ hospital where her condition was stated be serious.

Speakers recommend ‘mass awareness on water issue’

Aseefa launches anti-polio drive following her mother’s mission

Islamabad—Aseefa Bhutto, ambassador for polio eradication on Monday kicked off the countrywide anti-polio drive by administrating vaccine to minors and pledging to carry forward her mother’s mission. Aseefa is the country’s first child who was administered anti-polio drops personally by her mother - the then Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who launched the polio eradication campaign in 1994. President Asif Ali Zardari was present at the ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, to mark the partnership of polio eradication campaign with Benazir Income Support Program and also to support her youngest daughter in her aim to make Pakistan polio free.

Brisk exercise ‘cuts cancer death risk’

STRENUOUS exercise for just half an hour a day can reduce a person’s risk of dying from cancer, says a new study. Jogging, swimming, rowing and games like squash or football all lead to a lower risk of developing cancer and dying from it. However, the study found people must exercise for at least 30 minutes a day to gain any benefit, reports The Daily Express.

Islamabad—All refugees in Pakistan, whose number is the largest in the world, are enjoying all basic facilities. NH&MP recover 4 stolen cars

Islamabad—National Highways & Motorway Police Monday recovered four snatched and stolen cars lifted from different parts of the twin cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad and arrested four car lifters. As per details, NH&MP officers during their routine patrolling duty in the area of Lakori on Motorway observed Suzuki Mehran Car No.RLG-1981, Suzuki Mehran Car No.MU-518 and Suzuki Alto Car No.LY-692 which were over speeding and plying together. The NH&MP officers signaled them to stop but the drivers of the cars instead of stopping, tried to run away.
