MQM rejects Dr Mirza's allegations

KARACHI, Aug 30: Rebutting the allegations levelled by Sindh's former home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement said here on Tuesday that the allegation relating to a US plot to dismember Pakistan was not only ridiculous but also grave and malicious.
 
Speaking at a press conference, Muttahida leader Faisal Subzwari said the MQM and Altaf Hussain were not against Pakhtuns and the conversation attributed by Dr Mirza to Mr Hussain regarding the killing of Pakhtuns "is an unabashed lie, baseless and a figment of imagination of his devious mind"...

SC tells Sindh govt to 'wake up'

KARACHI, Aug 30: A five-judge special bench of the Supreme Court observed on Tuesday that there should be no compromise on people's fundamental rights in the search for security and asked the Sindh government to track down elements involved in target killings in Karachi.
 
Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who heads the bench hearing the suo motu case on the city's security situation, said the court wanted to know who the perpetrators were. "Why is the provincial government not waking up itself? The fundamental right to security is being violated." The chief justice said the compensation to be paid by the government to the families of people killed in the violence was the public money...

Man killed near Danish mosque

COPENHAGEN, Aug 30: A man was killed and two others injured after a shooting outside a Copenhagen mosque following Eid prayers on Tuesday.

Three die in train accident

LAHORE, Aug 30: Three people were killed and 19 others injured when the Karachi-bound Khyber Mail ran into a stationary passenger train, some two kilometres from the Badami Bagh railway station, on Tuesday morning.
 
Assistant driver Muhammad Javed and a woman passenger died on the spot while a boy died while being taken to a hospital. Khyber Mail driver Jain Khan was among the 12 injured who were shifted to the Mayo Hospital while six others were taken to the Nawaz Sharif hospital...
