Ex-naval chief Bokhari named to head NAB

ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: President Asif Ali Zardari named on Sunday Admiral (retd) Agha Fasih Bokhari, former chief of Pakistan Navy, as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to fill the office lying vacant for several months and make the country's premier accountability organisation functional.
The nomination of Admiral Bokhari surprised many observers in the capital because some other persons were reportedly being considered for the post. The NAB became dysfunctional on July 20 on the orders of the Supreme Court which said that the organisation could not function in the absence of a chairman...

Kurram groups sign accord to open key highway

PARACHINAR, Oct 9: After about three years, rival factions again signed a peace agreement here on Sunday to restore peace in Kurram Agency after the government promised to provide security on the main highway in the region.
Under the accord which was first signed in Murree in October 2008, the Thall-Parachinar road would be made safe for travel for local people and internally displaced people would be rehabilitated in their areas...

PML-Q dissident calls for dissolution of PA

LAHORE, Oct 9: Tahir Ali Javed of PML-Q's splinter (unification) group suggested to the Punjab government on Sunday to dissolve the provincial assembly, in an apparent bid to force early elections in the country.
The PML-N quickly distanced itself from the proposal and its spokesman Parvaiz Rashid told Dawn that the "party was neither responsible for the suggestion nor considering it as a policy tool. It is the personal view of Tahir Ali Javed and he is entitled to it."..

150 crime cells busted in Balochistan, says secretary

QUETTA, Oct 9: Law-enforcement agencies have busted about 150 cells of criminals involved in target killing and incidents of robbery and kidnapping for ransom in Balochistan, a meeting of the provincial cabinet on the law and order has been informed.The two-day meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani, concluded on Saturday evening.

Indian SC to hear Kasab plea today

NEW DELHI, Oct 9: India's Supreme Court will hear on Monday a plea of Ajmal Kasab challenging his conviction and death sentence in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case.
