LAHORE, Oct 15: The financial mess afflicting Pakistan Railways took yet another threatening turn on Saturday after thousands of employees took to the streets and picketed near railway tracks to voice indignation over non-payment of salary.
 
Many of the protesting employees not only sought payment of salary but also necessities like electricity and water. The reason: electricity supply to railway stations and employees' colonies in major cities and towns has been cut off because of non-payment of bills...

Zardari rejects objections over Bokhari

'386 civilians died in 300 drone attacks'

ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: The attack on a compound in South Waziristan Agency on Friday night that claimed the lives of at least three suspected militants was the 300th drone attack carried out by the US in the Pakistan's tribal region, according to a report by an independent London-based group of investigative journalists.
 
The report released on Saturday by Bureau of Investigative Journalism has mentioned varying figures about the casualties in the attacks as it says that at least 2,318 people and a maximum of 2,912 people, the majority of them alleged militants, have been killed in these attacks...

ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) has said that assistance to more than 8.9 million people affected by floods in Sindh and Balochistan may come to a halt in November after depletion of relief supplies by the end of the current month.
 
Only 18 per cent of the funding requirements have been received so far, $64.5 million of the $357 million requested in the Rapid Response Plan launched last month, Ocha said in its latest situation report on Saturday...

Story writer Mansha Yaad dies at 74

ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: Mansha Yaad, a prominent short story writer, playwright and critic, died of heart ailments here on Saturday. He was 74 and left behind three sons, one daughter and a widow.

BB assassination case: Acquittal plea of two officers dismissed

PESHAWAR, Oct 15: One of the militants killed in a drone strike in Pakistan on Friday was the son of a blind Egyptian cleric serving a life sentence in the United States for plotting to attack New York City landmarks, an Afghan Taliban commander said. 
 
The US drone attack killed Ahmed Omar Abdel Rahman, son of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, who was jailed in the United States in 1995, and also had a long history of violent opposition to the Egyptian government. ..

Riyadh asks Ban to refer  murder plot to UN council

RIYADH, Oct 15: Saudi Arabia has asked UN chief Ban Ki-moon to inform the Security Council of the 'heinous conspiracy' to kill its envoy to Washington in an alleged Iranian plot, SPA state news agency said on Saturday.

LADDAH, Oct 15: In the fourth attack in two days in South and North Waziristan, missiles fired by US drones hit a compound in the Bagher area on Friday night, killing at least three suspected militants.
