Yasin Anwar appointed SBP governor

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: Yasin Anwar was appointed governor of the State Bank for three years on Wednesday, within two weeks of his decision as the acting governor to relax policy discount rate by 150 basis points in a go.

Biometric system to be revived along Afghan border: Malik

QUETTA, Oct 19: Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Wednesday that Pakistan had decided to restore biometric system on its border with Afghanistan from Nov 30 to stop illegal crossing from both sides.

The government has been blaming the delay in presentation of the Holder of Public Offices (Accountability) Bill 2009 on dissenting notes submitted by four PML-N members during meetings of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs which had been holding the bill for the past 30 months...

Floods 'cut GDP growth rate by 0.5 per cent'

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: Pakistan's economy is considered to have suffered a 0.5 per cent loss to the estimated 4.2 per cent growth rate during the current financial year because of floods in Sindh, according to a senior official of the Ministry of Finance.

"Floods are estimated to have affected about half a per cent of GDP (gross domestic product) growth rate, but this needs to be verified," he said during a background briefing here on Wednesday...

Pakistan lost two brigades in war on terror

India trade should follow Kashmir peace, says Fazl

Sindh govt asked to upgrade Super Highway
