The masked robber entered the shop pulled out his gun and told the salesman to fill his bag, the Turkish Posta informs.</p><p> </p><p>At that time a 12-year old child who was in the shop jumped towards the robber who wasn t expecting that at all. The criminal hesitated tried to free himself from the child and ran away. The police studied the recording by the camera and arrested Mustafa S. who lived near the shop.<br /> </p> |
| Spain: Protest against education cuts Posted: <p> </p><p>Tens of thousands took to the street of Madrid to protest against what they say is an attempt by the local centre-right government to use a debt crisis to strangle public schools and benefit private ones.</p><p> </p><p>Madrid s regional government run by the People s Party that is expected to win general elections in November had asked public high school teachers to take on two extra classroom hours per week in a bid to save 80 million euros on extra staff.</p><p> </p><p>Clad in green t-shirts, state school teachers were joined by students banging on pans and holding banners demanding investment in public education. The demonstrators marched to Sol square as they chanted slogans against austerity measures in education.</p><p> </p><p>Head of teachers union ANPE in Madrid Francisco Melcon said the cuts would damage quality of education.</p><p> </p><p>"Of course with the cuts undertaken the last year and with the instructions at the start of this academic year all of this damages the quality of public education and that of course affects overall quality of education that pupils receive at public institutions," said Melcon.<br /> </p> |
| Yemen: Anti government protesters seeks international support Posted: <p> </p><p>Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets again to draw attention to their demands ahead of an expected briefing by the United Nations envoy to Yemen before the security council.</p><p> </p><p>Protester Mohamed al Sabri said "We want to tell the world, and Ban Ki-moon (Secretary-General of the United Nations) and Obama, Sarkozy, and all the leaders of the world, we want freedom, do you want freedom for the people of Yemen, stood with us."</p><p> </p><p>Protester Fatema Moohamed said "We took to street, to deliver the message to the UN Security Council, we do not want statements, Yemeni blood shedding, and we re still months in the fields, steadfast like mountains, but we don t get any (support) from the United Nations and human rights."</p><p> </p><p>The opposition cast doubt on any future dialogue with the government, which it blamed for the apparent failure of mediation attempts by UN envoy Jamal Benomar, who left Yemen empty-handed on Monday.<br /> </p> |

| No one arrested in Dr Imran Farooq murder case: UK police Posted: <p> </p><p>The London Metropoliton police said that it was still investigating the murder of Dr Imran Farooq.</p><p> </p><p>According to a letter, the Counter Terrorism Command chief of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), Commander Richard Walton wrote that they had released an estimated fit of a man whom they wish to speak to in connection with Dr Farooq’s murder.<br />Walton wrote that they had issued appeals to the public to step forward and assist in identifying a second Asian man whom the MPS wished to trace in connection with the incident.</p><p> </p><p>The letter further said that a number of rumours and incorrect stories were circulating in the London and Pakistani presses in connection to the case. MPS clarified that so far a 35 year old male had been arrested in Camden on December 9, 2010.</p><p> </p><p>It quashed media reports that the MPS had arrested three further suspects and conducted two searches in London. It also refuted the report that arrests were carried out in Pakistan on the request of MPS.<br /><br /> </p> |
| Two people lost lives in New York helicopter crash Posted: <p> </p><p>At least two persons died and three others were injured when a helicopter crashed into New York City s East River, setting off a rescue effort in the choppy, murky waters.</p><p> </p><p>The Bell 206 helicopter crashed moments after lifting off from a heliport on 34th Street on the east side of Manhattan. Rescue workers pulled the pilot and three passengers from the river, while a fourth passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.</p><p> </p><p>“We did get the body out of the woman who has died and I just hope that s the only fatality. Our prayers are with the three in the hospital,” said an official.</p><p> </p><p> </p> |
| Russia, China veto UN resolution on Syria Posted: <p> </p><p>Speaking following last night s vote in New York, Mr Hague said: “I am of course disappointed by Russia and China s decision to veto the UNSCR.</p><p> </p><p>“This will be seen in the region as a decision to side with a brutal regime rather than with the people of Syria, and will be a bitter blow to all those Syrians who have implored the international community to take a stand.”</p><p> </p><p>Mr Hague said the resolution, which was tabled by the UK along with France, Germany and Portugal, was "carefully drafted and entirely reasonable" and that those who blocked it would have the "horrific abuses" of the Syrian regime on their conscience.</p><p> </p><p>He added: "It took account of the need for all sides to reject violence, stressed that a political transition should be Syrian-led and was explicit that Security Council consideration of sanctions against Syria should not include military action.</p><p> </p><p>Mr Hague vowed to continue "to stand side by side with the Syrian people" and said Britain would "redouble our efforts to work with our international partners to increase the pressure on the regime wherever we can, and assure the people of Syria that they will not be forgotten."<br />The Security Council vote was 9-2 with four abstentions - India, South Africa, Brazil and Lebanon.</p><p> </p><p>Russia s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said his country did not support President Assad s regime or the violence, but opposed the resolution because it was "based on a philosophy of confrontation," contained "an ultimatum of sanctions," and was against a peaceful settlement of a crisis.<br /> </p><p> </p><p> </p> |
| Chechen claims to be oldest woman Posted: <p> </p><p>In Chechnya, Kesi Karuyeva recalls both the Soviet revolution, having survived both.</p><p> </p><p>That would make her one year older than American Besse Cooper, who was named the world’s oldest living person by Guinness World Records earlier this year. A great-grandmother from Russia s Muslim Chechnya region, Karuyeva has lived through the Bolshevik Revolution.</p><p> </p><p>She tears up as she recalls the deportation of her people by Soviet dictator Stalin in 1944, after they were accused of collaborating with Nazi Germany.</p><p> </p><p>Many Chechens died, including her husband and eight of her 10 children. Relatives say they have documents from the Russian Ministry of the Interior related to Karuyeva s rehabilitation that suggest that she s 11 years older than her passport date. | Raymond Davis accused of causing spine fracture Posted: <p> </p><p>Raymond Davis, a CIA contractor, caused a vertebrae fracture and other injuries to a man during a fight over a parking space in Colorado.</p><p> </p><p>An arrest warrant affidavit identified the victim as Jeffrey Maes and said he also suffered head injuries, abrasions and contusions.</p><p> </p><p>Maes attended a court hearing Tuesday and had a large U-shape wound on his forehead. He left the courtroom with an armed deputy by his side who told reporters Maes did not wish to comment. Davis was allowed to leave the courtroom through a back hallway and avoided reporters.</p><p> </p><p>In January, Davis said he shot two Pakistani in Lahore. Pakistan released him March 16 after the victims families agreed to accept $2.34 million. The shooting remains under investigation by US authorities.</p><p> </p><p>Senior Deputy District Attorney Rich Orman mentioned the shooting while asking County Judge Susanna Meissner-Cutler to forbid Davis from carrying a firearm while free on bail. Orman said he wanted to avoid another situation where there could be "potential lack of judgment."<br />"We need to consider this fact, and I don t believe the defendant should be allowed to carry a firearm," Orman said.<br /><br /> </p> |

| Ailing baby dies as curel cops detain motorcycle Posted: <p> </p><p>The blood-curdling incident took place in Sahiwal where unscrupulous policemen stopped a motorcycle at a picket. The motorcyclist was carrying his three-month ailing baby to hospital. He told the policemen that his son needed to be rushed to hospital for medical emergency, but his pleadings would fall on deaf ears, as per routine. The cops kept the man detained for over one hour. His baby died in the meantime, without medical attention because of the cruel policemen.</p><p> </p><p>The grieved family has demanded the Punjab chief minister to take action and get them justice.</p><p> </p><p>Policemen breaking law is common in Punjab more than in other provinces. The cops are seen violating traffic rules themselves under the pretext of enforcing law. <br /> </p> |

| Petroleum Ministry paid Rs 11 billion to overcome power crisis Posted: <p> </p><p>Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani ordered yesterday (Monday) that all outstanding dues of the Pakistan State Oil/Petroleum Ministry be cleared immediately so that power companies could be supplied with oil to get full power generation capacity.</p><p> </p><p>With the release of money, national grid will get 3000 MW electricity to decrease loadshedding. It may however take two to three days before the loadshedding situations gets to normal. <br /> </p> |
