Rates for kerosene, diesel unchanged Price of petrol raised

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: Despite a decline in international oil prices, the government decided on Saturday to raise prices of petrol and high octane blending component (HOBC) for January. Prices of other petroleum products were kept unchanged.
According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), the price of petrol has been increased by Rs1.65 to Rs89.54 per litre and that of HOBC by Rs5.13 to Rs111.91 per litre.."..

12 militants, two security men killed

MIRAMSHAH/KALAYA, Dec 31: Two security personnel were killed when a bomb exploded on the Miramshah-Dattakhel road in North Waziristan on Saturday while 12 militants were killed when jet fighters bombed their hideouts in Upper Orakzai region.
Officials and military sources said militants detonated a remote-controlled device when bomb disposal squad was passing through the area between Boya and Dattakhel....

Memo commission to start probe tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: The judicial commission set up by the Supreme Court to investigate the 'memogate' scandal will start its proceedings in the Islamabad High Court building on Monday.
The office of District and Sessions Judge of Islamabad, Raja Jawwad Abbas Hassan, who has been appointed as secretary to the commission, confirmed on Saturday that a notification about the meeting had been issued in consultation with Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who heads the commission....

Corruption to be eradicated: Nawaz

Kasuri opposes reopening of Bhutto case

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: As the Supreme Court is all set to resume on Monday the presidential reference on revisiting the murder trial of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Ahmed Raza Kasuri submitted a reply opposing reopening of the case because the president is an "interested party".
Mr Kasuri's complaint had implicated Mr Bhutto in the conspiracy to kill his father, Nawab Mohammad Ahmed Khan....

Karzai welcomes US remarks on Taliban

KABUL, Dec 31: Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Saturday welcomed US Vice-President Joe Biden's remarks that the Taliban "per se is not our enemy".

SC bench to take up Awan's 'adverse' comments

Four schoolchildren killed in Khyber attacks

LANDI KOTAL, Dec 31: Four schoolchildren were killed and 21 people, mostly students, injured in two incidents in Khyber Agency on Saturday.
According to officials, a bomb went off outside the hujra of tribal elder Malik Rasool Jan, where a jirga was in progress. Two students of a nearby school were killed and 14 injured. Two elders of Khugakhel tribe were also wounded....

Five Taliban arrested

KARACHI, Dec 31: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh police on Saturday claimed to have arrested five members of a terrorist outfit, including its provincial 'commander'.

Obama terms Osama killing biggest achievement of 2011

WASHINGTON, Dec 31: US President Barack Obama on Saturday touted the killing of Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad as the most noticeable achievement of his administration in 2011 and pledged to continue to reduce the US military engagement in Afghanistan.
In his last weekly address for 2011, the president also tried to convince Americans that the world's largest economy was showing signs of improvement. But he relied heavily on his foreign policy gains while counting his successes, pointing out that he fulfilled his pledges to end the Iraq war and reduce US military engagement in Afghanistan.....
