Seoul summit starts today: Gilani to renew demand for civilian N-tech

SEOUL, March 25: Unfazed by Indian concerns about its atomic programme, Pakistan would apprise the nuclear summit being held here of its 'safety and security' procedures and expertise in secure management of its nuclear infrastructure to bolster its claim for access to civilian nuclear technology and membership of export control regimes.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is likely to make an offer to train nuclear personnel from other countries, particularly of the Middle East and Central Asia, in his address to the summit being attended by 53 countries and four international organisations...

Acid attack victim laid to rest

KARACHI, March 25: Fakhra Younis, an acid attack victim who committed suicide in Italy, was buried here on Sunday.
The body which had arrived earlier in the day was received by the relatives, philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, MQM leaders Nasreen Jalil, Khusbakht Shujaat and Wasay Jalil, and human rights activists and politicians at the airport.The body had been sent to Karachi by the Pakistan embassy after funeral prayers had been offered in Rome. Funeral prayers were also offered in Karachi outside the Edhi Home in Federal B. Area where hundreds of MQM workers and human rights activists were present...

Singh, Gilani likely to meet in Seoul

NEW DELHI, March 25: The prime ministers of India and Pakistan may meet in Seoul on the sidelines of the second Nuclear Security Summit that begins there on Monday, news reports from the summit venue said.

Electricity crisis worsens

ISLAMABAD, March 25: With hydroelectric generation at an alarmingly low level because of serious water shortage, the electricity shortfall increased on Sunday to 5,500MW, about 40 per cent of the estimated peak demand of 13,500MW, resulting in an average loadshedding of 11 hours across the country.
Loadshedding of up to 16 hours was reported in rural areas to keep the duration of power breakdowns limited to 6-8 hours in major cities, informed sources said...

US unlikely to punish Salala attackers

WASHINGTON, March 25: The US military is not planning to discipline any of its forces over a cross-border skirmish last year that left 24 Pakistani soldiers dead and plunged Washington-Islamabad ties to their lowest point in years, an American military official said on Saturday.

Dissolved Pepco promotes 41 officers, faces criticism

Cameron pledges inquiry into cash-for-access claim
