| Yasin Malik to record statement before Memo Commission Posted: <p> </p><p>Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yasin Malik reached Pakistan to record his statement before the Memo Commission.</p><p> </p><p>Yasim Malik said that he will make some important disclosures and apprise the commission about details of his meeting with Mansoor Ijaz, the central figure in the case.</p><p> </p><p>In the previous hearing the commission rejected Husain Haqqani’s request for recording his statement through video link. However, Husain Haqqani filed an application in the Supreme Court, urging the apex court to allow him the facility on security grounds. A copy of the application has also been submitted in the Memo Commission.<br /> </p> |
| 7.2 magnitude quake strikes Chile Posted: <p> </p><p>A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck central Chile Sunday, in an area hit by an 8.8 earthquake in 2010, the US Geological Survey said.</p><p> </p><p>The USGS said the latest quake occurred at 2237 GMT 32 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Talca, Chile, at a depth of 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).</p><p> </p><p>The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii, taking note of the earthquake in Chile, said "a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected."</p><p> </p><p>The Maule coastal region in central Chile where the quake occurred has been periodically shaken by powerful aftershocks since an 8.8 magnitude quake February 27, 2010 that claimed more than 500 lives and billions of dollars in damage.</p><p> </p><p>Many of the deaths in that quake occurred from local tsunamis that wiped out coastal villages.<br /> </p> |
| Wasan orders reinvestigation of Fakhra case Posted: <p> </p><p>Talking to media on arrival at the Karachi Airport from Sukkur, Manzoor Wasan said that a committee has been set up to investigate Fakhra Younas case which will submit its report within 24 hours.</p><p> </p><p>He said that some elements are behind sectarian and linguistic violence is Karachi. He said that a high level meeting will be held today to ascertain law and order situation in Karachi.</p><p> </p><p>Manzoor Wasan further informed that a committee has been set up to assist judicial commission formed to look into target killing incidents in the city. <br /> </p> |
| Karachi: Prisoner killed in Central Jail clash Posted: <p> </p><p>According to details a scuffle broke out between two inmates, Ahmad and Bisharat, at the Central Jail Karachi. Ahmad attacked Bisharat with a sharp edged weapon and killed him.</p><p> </p><p>Inspector General (IG) of Jail Ghulam Qadir Thehbo told media that Assistant Superintendent of Central Jail Karachi along with two policemen were suspended for not performing their duties well.</p><p> </p><p>Police arrested the prisoner and shifted to another cell while the body of the deceased was shifted to a local hospital.<br /> </p> |
| Police official breaks jaw of plumber for demanding labour Posted: <p> </p><p>According to plumber, Karam Shah, constable Abid of Iqbal Town police Station called him for some work at his house. Karam Shah demanded his labour after finishing the work upon which the constable got angry and attacked him with a steel rod and broke his jaw.</p><p> </p><p>Karam Shah also alleged that police is not registering a case despite passage of three days. Meanwhile, DSP Iqbal Khan has said that he only received an application for medical upon which action will be taken according to the law.<br /> </p> |
| French spiderman scales Jakarta skyscraper Posted: <p> </p><p>A French free-climber known as spider man climbed one of Jakarta s tallest buildings on Sunday -- but not in his usual style.</p><p> </p><p>Alain Robert scaled the 50-storey Bakrie Tower using suction cups and a safety harness after authorities banned him from climbing with his bare hands.</p><p> </p><p>Previously, the 49-year-old had attempted to scale Indonesia s Wisma Mulia tower, but was caught by police and deported from the country.</p><p> </p><p>This time, however, he was invited to carry out the stunt to help celebrate the anniversary of a local broadcaster - but on condition that he used climbing equipment.</p><p> </p><p>"It was going to be tiring because I have never climbed two hundred metres using suction cups," he said after the event.</p><p> </p><p>He said the Indonesian authorities had made it clear to him that they would not allow him to climb with his bare hands.</p><p> </p><p>"This is a specific demand and right away I understood that there would be no possibility for me to use only my fingers," the Frenchman said.</p><p> </p><p>Robert took just over two-and-a-half hours to reach the top of the 215-metre building.</p><p> </p><p>Over the past 18 years, Robert, known as the Human Spider has scaled most of the world s tallest buildings without ropes, usually illegally, and with scant regard for the consequences. He has suffered several falls, sometimes resulting in serious fractures.</p><p> </p><p>He began climbing skyscrapers in 1994, when he was asked whether he would like to attempt an ascent of an office block for an extreme-sports documentary.</p><p> </p><p>Since then, Robert has scaled more than 85 tall buildings around the world, including London s Canary Wharf building, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and New York s Empire State Building.<br /> </p> |
| Russia says Annan offers last chance for Syria Posted: <p> </p><p>Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned Sunday that Kofi Annan represented the last chance for avoiding a civil war in Syria and offered the UN-Arab League envoy Moscow s full support.</p><p> </p><p>"This may be the last chance for Syria to avoid a protracted and bloody civil war," Russian agencies quoted Medvedev as telling Annan at a meeting held in Moscow s Vnukovo 2 airport before his departure for a summit in Seoul.</p><p> </p><p>"We will be offering you our full support at any level in which we have a say," said Mededev.</p><p> </p><p>"We very much hope that your efforts have a positive outcome."</p><p> </p><p>Annan said he needed Russia s strong backing to succeed in ending a year of bloodshed that the opposition says has claimed more than 9,100 lives.</p><p> </p><p>Russian news agencies quoted Annan as saying he expected Russia to play an "active" role in making sure that both sides follow the points of the UN Security Council-backed Syria peace plan.</p><p> </p><p>Neither Annan nor Medvedev made any specific reference to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad or the opposition s demands on his immediate ouster.</p><p> </p><p>Annan preceded his talks with Medvedev with a private meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Russian officials said agreed on the need for "further efforts" by world and regional powers to resolve the crisis.</p><p> </p><p>"Both sides underscored the importance of working with both the government and the opposition," Interfax quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov as saying.</p><p> </p><p>Russia had said in advance of Annan s visit that it wanted the West to apply stronger pressure on the opposition forces to lay down their arms.</p><p> </p><p>Moscow has also been playing down the influence it has over its Arab world ally and this month accused Assad of refusing to listen to Russia s suggestions on resolving the crisis.<br /> </p> |

locality in Karachi near an area where a literary event was being held. </span></p><p> </p><p><span style="">The firing damaged three vehicles. Police returned the fire which injured one of attackers who was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="">Panic gripped the area after the firing and the literary event was also stopped for some time. According to police the dead attacker was identified as Kamran, a resident of Shah Rasool Colony. Police have also arrested five suspects in connection with the firing incident.</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="">Earlier, some unidentified persons resorted to Intermittent firing when the dead body of the attacker was brought to Zia-ud-Din Hospital, forcing police to move the body to Jinnah Hospital.</span></p> |

| SC to resume contempt case against PM today Posted: <p> </p><p>A seven-member bench of Supreme Court, headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, is hearing of the case. Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, the counsel for Prime Minister Gilani in the case, will continue to present arguments in the contempt hearing.</p><p> </p><p>Earlier, Aitzaz had raised objection over the bench hearing the case. Aitzaz Ahsan claimed that the bench is not competent to hear the case as it was comprised of the judges who issued show cause notice to the prime minister.<br /> </p> |

| Parliament to resume joint sitting today Posted: <p> </p><p>Parliament of Pakistan will resume its joint sitting after a five day long break today (Monday) at 5:00pm in Islamabad to discus the recommendations of Parliamentary Committee on National Security regarding the foreign policy, further engagements with US and restoration of NATO supply.</p><p> </p><p>Opposition leader in National assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan would start the discussion, meanwhile opposition parties have agreed to adopt joint strategy and opposition would oppose the restoration of NATO supply.</p><p> </p><p>Opposition would present joint recommendations and if government refused to include the opposition’s recommendations it would not support new resolution.</p><p> </p><p>Opposition has decided to get assurance of government for implementation of new resolution and Opposition would raise the issue of non implementation of resolution passed during in-camera session of the parliament.</p><p> </p><p>Meanwhile it is expected that Senator Raza Rabbani would present a report regarding the implementation on resolutions of parliament which have been already passed. | 40 miscreants killed in South Waziristan operation Posted: <p> </p><p>According to ISPR statement, miscreants abducted and killed two security officials in the jurisdiction Blochistan near South Waziristan after which security forces launched an operation militants in Sheen Warsak area of Wana.</p><p> </p><p>At least 40 militants were killed in the security forces operation which lasted eight hours. Four security officials were also martyred during the operation.<br /> </p> |
| Lahore: No clue of girl abducted for Rs 5 million ransom Posted: <p> </p><p>According to details, 12-year-old Sana, daughter of a gardener was kidnapped from Shahdara on March 13 from her house by some influential persons of the locality.</p><p> </p><p>Police officials were informed about the incident but they did not take any action.</p><p> </p><p>Meanwhile, CM Punjab took notice of the incident after Dunya News flashed the news of Sana’s kidnapping and ordered to recover the minor girl as early as possible. The father of Sana is stated to be a gardener by profession.<br /> </p> |
