-----------------------------------------------------------------
By Nasir Iqbal
ISLAMABAD, March 30: The Supreme Court on Friday dealt a severe blow to the policies of the previous as well as present governments on rental power projects when in an overarching verdict it held the RPP contracts non-transparent and ordered that these to be rescinded.

The court also ordered National Accountability Bureau chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari to proceed with corruption references against those who were at the helm of affairs when the contracts were signed between 2006 and 2008 to overcome the energy shortfall through RPPs as a stopgap arrangement...

Eight-hour deliberations on ties with US: Military asks politicians
to speak with one voice
----------------------------------------------------------------
By Khawar Ghumman
ISLAMABAD, March 30: In recent history, the night between Thursday and Friday turned out to be unique in that the country's top military and civilian leadership (both from treasury and opposition benches) were in a huddle for eight hours to determine the contours of Pakistan's future ties with the United States.

While the government and military officials wanted a speedy resolution of the Nato supply issue, the opposition parties dug their heels in and called for detailed explanations on all aspects ranging from drone attacks, footprint of foreign intelligence operatives and imposition of levy on future transportation of supplies to Nato forces in Afghanistan...

US to rely on India if talks with Pakistan fail
----------------------------------------------------------------
By Anwar Iqbal
WASHINGTON, March 30: The delay in finalising parliamentary recommendations for US-Pakistan relations is causing confusion in Washington where the Obama administration seems unable to decide how to proceed with rebuilding this key relationship.

While the White House and the State Department say that they will wait patiently for Pakistan to complete the review, a senior US general told a congressional panel on Thursday that the United States would have to rely on India and the northern distribution network if Pakistan did not reopen Nato supply lines to Afghanistan...

SC sceptical of claim about 'loss' of report on Mehran scam
----------------------------------------------------------------
ISLAMABAD, March 30: The Supreme Court hearing a case relating to the doling out of money by the Inter-Services Intelligence to politicians in the 1990s appeared to be sceptical when it was informed on Friday that reports of two commissions on the financial scam were nowhere to be found.

"It seems the two reports are intentionally not being produced before the court," said Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, a member of a three-judge bench which had taken up a petition filed in 1996 by Tehrik-i-Istiqlal chief Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan requesting the court to look into allegations that the ISI had financed many politicians in the 1990 election by dishing out Rs140 million to create the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad and block Benazir Bhutto's PPP from winning...
