Discord over opposition leader continues: Balochistan assembly dissolved by governor

QUETTA, March 18: Though Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi dissolved the provincial assembly on Monday, the JUI-F/BNP-A and their rival group, comprising members of other parties represented in the house, remained entangled in a tug of war over the choice for Leader of Opposition in the assembly.

SC rejects Malik’s apology

ISLAMABAD, March 18: The Supreme Court rejected an apology tendered by former interior minister Rehman Malik on Monday and decided to indict him for contempt of court for meddling in the investigation of Pakistan Steel Mills corruption case. Mr Malik appeared before a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry but could not convince the court and tendered an unconditional apology.

The chief justice rejected his apology and said: “Let the matter be fixed by the registrar office within seven days before the court to frame the charges against Rehman Malik and the attorney general, Pakistan, to act as prosecutor in the case.”...

Four die in suicide attack at Peshawar court

1965 war hero M.M. Alam passes away

KARACHI, March 18: Air Commodore (retd) Muhammad Mahmood Alam Khan, a veteran of the 1965 and 1971 wars, died in a hospital here on Monday after a long illness. He was 78.

Funeral prayer was offered at the Masroor Base and attended, among others, by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, PAF chief Air Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Corps Commander Lt Gen Ejaz Chaudhry and senior officials of the Air Force, Navy and Army. Taliban suspend talks offer

LADHA, March 18: The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced on Monday that it was temporarily suspending its offer for talks because of the government’s ‘non-serious’ attitude. Karachi’s 11 constituencies may be altered

ISLAMABAD, March 18: A committee constituted by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suggested changes in the boundaries of three Karachi constituencies of the National Assembly and eight of Sindh Assembly before announcement of the election schedule.

The committee headed by Sindh ECP Member Justice (retd) Mohammad Roshan Essani, said in its report that fresh delimitation would be contrary to judicial principles without first declaring the final lists of constituencies published by the ECP in 2002 and re-described in 2007 and 2013 as illegal...
