Design defects hamper dam’s powerhouse operation Ahmad Fraz Khan LAHORE: In less than a year since its commissioning in June last year, the Gomal Zam dam in South Waziristan is facing serious problem because of a number of design defects and other related matters. As a result, it has not been possible to operate the dam’s powerhouse, causing huge losses to the government and Wapda.
Khasadar killed in Mohmand Dawn Report KHAR/GHALANAI: A Khasadar man was killed and five Levies personnel were injured in two separate bomb attacks in Mohmand and Bajaur tribal regions on Sunday. In Bajaur, five Levies Force personnel and a woman were injured in a roadside bomb blast while in Mohmand, a Khasadar man was killed and an FC man and two civilians were injured.
Up to six hours of loadshedding as shortage rises to 2,100MW Khalid Hasnain LAHORE: Cities and towns and rural areas across the country faced up to six hours of loadshedding, despite closure of public and private businesses on Sunday. The power shortfall rose to 2,100MW because of suspension of 350MW supply from two 220KV Guddo-Sibbi and Uch-Sibbi towers and transmission lines which were reportedly damaged in a terrorist attack.

Two bodies found in Quetta The Newspaper's Staff Correspondent QUETTA: Two bodies were found in Shalkot and Kuchlak areas of the provincial capital on Sunday, police and hospital sources said. Police brought a body to civil hospital from Shalkot area on the outskirts of Quetta.
100 Pakistanis stranded abroad return home Syed Irfan Raza ISLAMABAD: About 100 Pakistanis stranded in different countries after expiry of their visa have returned home, sources in the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment Pakistan (BIOEP) told Dawn on Sunday. They said the Pakistanis returned home within a month after the bureau chalked out an action plan to control illegal migration of compatriots to other countries.
Army chief leaves today on day-long Kabul visit APP RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif will leave for Kabul on Monday for a day-long visit, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations. During the visit, the COAS will hold important meetings with commanders of Afghan military and the International Security Assistance Force. —APP
