SC asks Sindh govt to tackle Taliban influx By Tahir Siddiqui KARACHI, Nov 3: The Supreme Court has observed that a number of instances clearly reflect “mala fide conduct of the Government of Sindh in dealing with the poor law and order situation in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, which if continued, will never bring peace and rest” to the province. The court also took exception to a decision by the provincial government nine years ago to release on parole 35 prisoners who were under trial on charges of committing “heinous offences”.
Provincial govt has ‘lost moral authority’ By Amir Wasim ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) believes that in a replay of the Balochistan scenario, the Sindh government has also lost “moral and constitutional authority” to rule the province after the Supreme Court’s interim order in the Karachi law and order case. The party drew parallels between the court’s verdict on the law and order situation in Balochistan and the interim order issued on Saturday in the case related to target killings and extortion in Karachi.
Police powers for FC in Quetta extended QUETTA, Nov 3: The Balochistan government extended for another month the police powers granted to the Frontier Corps to maintain law and order in the Quetta district, said an official statement issued by the home department on Saturday. Indian Punjab team coming to explore trade prospects By Our Correspondent NEW DELHI, Nov 3: The energetic deputy chief minister of India’s Punjab state would lead a delegation to Pakistan on Monday to ex-plore strengthening bilateral trade, and, some reports said, he would also discuss the delay in naming a public square in Lahore after the anti-colonial icon Bhagat Singh. Hailing the opening of trade ties through the Attari-Wagah border, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said in Gurgaon he would visit Pakistan on Monday to explore strengthening trade between ‘eastern’ and ‘western’ Punjab.

Syrian tanks entered Golan DMZ: Israel JERUSALEM, Nov 3: Three Syrian tanks entered the demilitarised zone in the Golan Heights on Saturday, prompting Israel to make a complaint to UN peacekeepers, the military said. The foray would be the first such violation in 40 years and hikes concerns that violence from Syria’s internal conflict could heat up a long-quiet frontier.
FIA asks ATC to conduct daily hearings in Mumbai case By Malik Asad RAWALPINDI, Nov 3: The Federal Investigation Agency requested the anti-terrorism court on Saturday to conduct proceedings in the Mumbai attacks case on a day-to-day basis. Through an application he filed in the court, FIA’s special public prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali said that defence lawyers were using delaying tactics and wondered why the accused were avoiding facing the trial if they were innocent.
